Rooibos Rocks stress

Can drinking Rooibos reduce stress?

Yes, absolutely! For starters, it’s caffeine-free. Caffeine, as we all know, gets your system all buzzed up – not good if you are trying to calm your system down!

Actually, it does more than that. It interferes with your sleep patterns, helps to dehydrate you, raises anxiety levels, causes blood pressure spikes and can even cause heart palpitations. So switching from caffeine-rich drinks like coffee or tea and replacing them with Rooibos is going to reduce your stress levels big time.

But that’s not all. A couple of recent research papers, one published in Molecular Nutrition & Food and the other conducted at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, have shown that Rooibos can significantly reduce the levels of cortisol, a stress hormone.

Finally, the mere act of taking time out for a cuppa helps us unwind. It encourages us to step away from a stressful situation or difficult issue, breaking a train of thought that’s causing us anxiety. Whether we drink it on our own or use it as an excuse to share our problems with someone else, the effect is the same – it gives us a few minutes of mental and emotional breathing space.

That’s three very good reasons why drinking Rooibos tea is a great way to reduce stress. Very beneficial, even at the best of times – and especially so right now!
